iPhone 4 SIM — Micro Sim

Apple iPhone 4 Sim Card and Cutter

The iPhone 4 SIM is smaller than the previous cards in all the other iPhones. It was developed by the European Telecommunications Stadards Institute (ETSI). And if you are swapping cards from different phone some adjustment will be necessary.

Some Assembly Required

If your SIM card is the standard size you will need to reduce it if you want it to work in your iPhone 4.

You can do it on your own with no special tools

  • The micro SIM can be cut with a pen knife or scissors.
  • Measure the SIM against the SIM already in your iPhone 4 and trace around it with a felt tip pen.
  • Carefully cut the card.
  • The SIM card feels strong enough but it is still fragile.

Another option is to get a SIM trimmer

These little devices make cutting a SIM very easy. Accuracy is very important and the cutter will guide you through the process. With these cutters you just place your SIM in the cutter tray and press down. If you are confident with your ability to cut the card on your own then by all means, go ahead. If you are a bit nervous you can order a cutter to take some of the risk out of the equation.

The trimmers usually come with a few SIM adapters so if you ever want to switch back to a normal SIM you just plug into one of the adapters and you are good to go.

The iPad also uses a micro SIM.
